The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Friday staged a protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged paper leaks and for police action against students during recent demonstrations.

The protest by the Congress' youth wing at their office came days after the Congress and opposition parties stepped up their campaign against the Centre over the issue of paper leaks and the handling of student protests in the national capital.

IYC national president Uday Bhanu Chib said the youth would hold accountable those responsible for jeopardising their future through paper leaks and suppressing their voices.

"The nation's youth are asking questions and demanding change. Those who ruin the future of the youth through paper leaks and suppress their voices with lathis will certainly be held accountable," he said.

Chib said that the opposition stood with the students and would continue to raise their concerns "from the streets to Parliament."

Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress president Akshay Lakra said there would be no further dialogue with the government until Pradhan resigned.

"There will be no further dialogue until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns, and we will continue to fight for the nation's youth in this manner," Lakra said.

The Youth Congress also demanded action against those accused of assaulting students and called for the withdrawal of cases registered against protesters.

The protest followed a series of demonstrations by opposition parties over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and the police action during a student-led protest in Delhi.

On Thursday, the IYC had alleged that Delhi Police barricaded and locked its office for more than three hours, preventing workers from entering or leaving the premises. It claimed that police personnel and paramilitary forces barricaded the office around 6 pm and confined workers inside. There was no immediate response from the Delhi Police to the allegations.

The IYC had also alleged that internet services were disrupted in parts of New Delhi and questioned the reasons behind the barricading of its office.
