Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday launched the e-Pathshala initiative, a digital learning platform under the school education department, stressing that technology is intended to complement classroom teaching, not replace teachers.
The e-Pathshala channel will be accessible on DTH channel 53, providing home-based learning across the Union Territory. Abdullah also inaugurated new hostel buildings and other development projects under the Samagra Shiksha scheme.
“This is just a small step. Our goal is to eventually have a dedicated channel for every class,” Abdullah said, noting that digital classrooms should never be seen as a substitute for teachers. “The relationship between a teacher and a student cannot be replaced by any device or technology,” he added.
Recalling his own schooling, Abdullah shared how a teacher, Sat Lal Razdan, inspired him to excel in science despite initial struggles, highlighting the lasting impact of effective teaching.
He congratulated the education department and urged regular feedback from students and teachers to ensure the content remains relevant and useful. Abdullah noted that 14 of the UT’s 20 districts have achieved education literacy, with remote districts expected to benefit significantly from the channel.
