National Conference MP Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo on Friday raised concerns in the Rajya Sabha over the difficulties faced by students from Jammu and Kashmir after a Rajasthan-based university allegedly failed to honour its admission assurances.

Raising the matter during Zero Hour, Kichloo said several students from Jammu seeking admission to nursing programmes at Mewar University were denied admission despite receiving commitments from the university authorities.

According to the MP, 82 students had applied for BSc Nursing courses and were assured admission, but none of them have been enrolled so far. He further alleged that when students protested against the denial of admission, 33 of them were taken into custody by the police.

“If students want to study and build their future, why are they being treated this way? I demand a thorough inquiry and strict action against those responsible,” Kichloo said.

The MP also highlighted another issue involving Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College in Katra, claiming that around 50 students selected purely on merit have been adversely affected following the closure of the institution.

“The students were admitted on merit, but the college has now shut down, putting their academic future at risk. These students must be accommodated in other medical colleges,” he urged, seeking immediate intervention to protect their education prospects.
