The Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly condemned the gruesome murder of a Mumbai woman Shraddha Walked allegedly by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawala in Delhi six months ago and which was discovered recently by the police.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind's deputy Amir, Professor Muhammad Salim Engineer said: “Heartbroken to read the news of the gruesome murder of Shraddha in Delhi. We strongly condemn this barbaric act and demand the strictest punishment for the killer.”

Aftab chopped Shraddha’s body into 35 pieces and disposed of it in different parts of the Mehrauli forest over a period of two weeks.

Professor Salim said that “the heinous manner in which the dead body was disposed of is very barbaric. No amount of condemnation is enough.”

He added that in view of such incidents, society needed to seriously consider two issues - an increase in domestic violence and physical abuse of women. To raise awareness about these issues, Professor Salim appealed to society and the government to end this phenomenon.
