Members of the Muslim community on Friday organised a langar for pilgrims of Amarnath yatra, sending a message of communal harmony and brotherhood across the country.

Under the banner of Waffa Foundation, members of the community served rice pudding (kheer) to pilgrims headed towards the holy shrine.

Parvez Ali Waffa, founder of the Foundation, said the state, particularly the Jammu region, had remained peaceful in the past by and large.

He said, “But now, certain people with vested interests are trying to divide people on the basis of religion,”.

“J&K reflects the true plural ethos of secular India, where people of different communities strive for love and harmony, complementing each other’s lives on a day-to-day basis,” Waffa said.

While talking to an Indian news agency, the foundation not only condemned the gruesome killing of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, but also said that these kind of killings can only be carried forth by terrorist organisations and have nothing to do with any religion.

They further added that anyone carrying out such heinous act has no place in the society and the court of law must make sure that such people are served proper judgement.

The pilgrims are also being welcomed by locals on the way.
