A young villager from Maharashtra displayed remarkable courage when he jumped into a well to rescue passengers trapped after their vehicle lost control and plunged into the water. His prompt action saved four lives.
Irfan Mujawar was standing by the roadside in Tanduwadi village when he noticed a mini-truck carrying men, women and children swerving dangerously. Moments later, the vehicle went airborne and crashed into a nearby well.
Realising that the passengers would drown without immediate help, Irfan rushed to the spot. He quickly called his father and alerted other villagers before diving into the well.
The pickup van was carrying a family from Ranjani village who were returning from a pilgrimage to the Siddhnath Temple in Mhaswad, Satara district. According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge into the well.

Without hesitation, Irfan entered the water and began rescuing those struggling to stay afloat. Among those he saved was four-year-old Arush. In all, he rescued four people before additional help arrived.
Other villagers, drivers and passers-by soon joined the rescue effort. Working together, they managed to pull eight people out of the well alive. However, eight passengers who were trapped inside the cabin of the vehicle could not be saved.
Recalling the incident, Irfan said, “When the accident happened, I was about 200 feet away. I felt the vehicle might overturn, but it went straight into the well. I saw two or three people, including a four-year-old child, struggling in the water. I rescued the child first and cleared the water from his mouth.”
He added, “With the help of the villagers, we pulled several devotees out of the well. There were men, women and small children among them. The others went down with the vehicle, and despite our efforts, we could not save them.”
