Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi is scheduled to visit India from January 15 to 17, according to a media advisory issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

As per the MEA, Motegi will arrive in New Delhi on January 15. On January 16, he will hold talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at Hyderabad House. On January 17, the Japanese Foreign Minister will lay a wreath at Raj Ghat and later visit the Delhi Metro before departing from the national capital.

The visit follows a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi earlier this year in Johannesburg, on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in South Africa.

In a statement, the MEA said that the two leaders had reaffirmed the importance of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, rooted in civilisational ties, shared values, mutual goodwill and a shared commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. They underscored their resolve to further deepen the partnership for regional and global peace, prosperity and stability.

The leaders also acknowledged the steady progress in bilateral relations during the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit and called for the expeditious implementation of agreed outcomes across a wide range of sectors, including defence and security, trade and investment, small and medium enterprises, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, semiconductors, infrastructure development, technology and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges.

They discussed collaborative opportunities in strategic sectors and exchanged views on regional and global issues. Prime Minister Takaichi expressed strong support for the AI Summit scheduled to be hosted by India in February 2026.
