Lok Sabha extends tenure of panel examining 'One Nation, One Election' Bills

New Delhi

The Lok Sabha on Thursday approved an extension for the parliamentary committee examining bills aimed at introducing simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.

Committee Chairman P.P. Chaudhary moved the motion to extend the tenure of the Joint Committee on the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, until the first day of the last week of the 2026 Budget session. The motion was adopted by a voice vote.

Since its formation last December, the committee has consulted constitutional experts, economists, and Law Commission Chairman Dinesh Maheshwari, among others.
