In a closely fought contest, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee moved back into the lead against BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari in the Bhabanipur seat after the third round of counting on Monday.

As per Election Commission figures, Banerjee secured 9,359 votes, putting her 898 votes ahead of Adhikari, who had polled 8,461 votes at that stage.

Earlier, Adhikari had taken the lead in the second round with a margin of 1,558 votes. Banerjee had initially started strong, leading by 1,996 votes in the first round, highlighting the fluctuating trends in the constituency.

Counting for all 293 assembly seats in West Bengal is currently underway under strict security measures.

The Bhabanipur constituency has drawn significant attention, seen as a high-stakes contest between Banerjee and Adhikari, who is leading the BJP’s challenge as the Leader of the Opposition.
