Serving food to people in the month of Ramazan is considered an act of piety by Muslims and Matiur Rahman, a businessman from Jalukbari in Guwahati, is doing that in a good measure.

This hotelier is providing free food for Iftar to around 200 fasting Muslims each day during the month. He serves them delicious food in his hotel. No wonder, the Hotel Taj of Jalukbari has become the center of special attraction these days.

This has been Matiur Rahman's practice for 11 years.

Matiur Rahman serves a variety of dishes to his guests and greets them at the time of Iftar (breaking of fast in the evening). He supervises the cooking of his staff and also serves them.

The hotel offers fasting Muslims 15 types of food like fruits, roti or paratha, pulao, meat, etc.

In a conversation with Awaz-the Voice, Matiur Rahman says, “It is not a question of profit or loss. Traditionally, I have been arranging for Iftar. I will continue to do so in the future also. This is a great way to get acquainted with people. By serving them food, I get to know each rozdar better."

He says, “At least in the month of Ramazan, I do not think at all about the pros and cons. I do all the work myself. Even if someone gives me something for iftar, I spend it on feeding others.”

A person who was eating at his hotel said, “This is the first time I have seen this happen in my life. Hope Matiur Rahman continues such great work in the future also.”

Besides arranging food for Iftar, Matiur Rehman’s hotel also has arrangements for people to offer Namaz. A separate room is designated for Namaz. People eat the food at Iftar and offer namaz there.
