The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the remainder of Monday following forecasts of heavy rainfall across Mumbai and nearby districts.

Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar announced the adjournment, urging citizens to extend full cooperation to the administration as authorities respond to the worsening weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad, warning of extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds.

The issue of rain-related fatalities over the past two days was raised in the House by Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar. Congress MLA Amin Patel and Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Ajay Chaudhari also sought the government's response to the situation.

Responding to the concerns, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the state government and local administration were fully prepared and monitoring developments closely.

He assured the House that any shortcomings identified in the disaster response would be addressed without delay. Fadnavis also appealed to people to remain vigilant and avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary.

The chief minister said authorities had promptly issued warnings about a potential landslide along the Mumbai-Pune route, adding that disaster management teams and civic officials were actively working on the ground.

According to Fadnavis, wind speeds of 70 to 90 kmph were expected later in the day, posing an additional threat.

"Today is also expected to be challenging. On Sunday alone, around 350 incidents of tree falls were reported when wind speeds touched nearly 50 kmph," he said.
