Nitin Nabin on Saturday accused previous Congress governments in Assam of turning the Barak Valley into a “crime hub” driven by vote bank politics.
Addressing an election rally in Sribhumi district, he alleged that earlier regimes prioritised the appeasement of infiltrators over the welfare of local residents, leading to a deterioration in law and order.
According to Nabin, voters responded decisively by removing the Congress from power and electing a BJP-led NDA government that, he said, brought a development-oriented approach to governance.
Expressing confidence ahead of the April 9 assembly elections, he said the NDA would return to power with a strong mandate.
Highlighting the current administration’s record, Nabin claimed that crime in the Barak Valley region has significantly reduced under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He asserted that strict action against wrongdoing has created a sense of security among residents, adding that criminals now fear consequences.
The BJP leader also pointed to various development initiatives undertaken over the past decade and said the government remains committed to continuing its focus on both heritage and progress.
