A team of the National Investigation Agency is on its way to the outskirts of Bengaluru after a suspicious packet containing two gelatin sticks was discovered on Sunday ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit, officials said.

The location lies along the route that was to be used by the prime minister’s convoy.

Officials said the NIA team will assist local police in the investigation into the recovery.

According to local police, the packet containing the gelatin sticks was found nearly one kilometre from the NICE Road junction near Thathaguni in Kaggalipura on Sunday morning, around one-and-a-half hours before the prime minister’s movement through the area.

Investigators said a police constable involved in area domination and anti-sabotage checks spotted the suspicious packet around 25 feet from the roadside near a compound wall.

An area domination team was immediately rushed to the spot, where two gelatin sticks were recovered and the surrounding area was secured.

No suspects have been detained so far.
