Nitish Kumar was on Tuesday unanimously elected as the national president of the Janata Dal (United) after no other candidate entered the fray.

The announcement was made by party leader Anil Hegde in the national capital, who detailed the election schedule. He said nominations closed on March 22, scrutiny was completed on March 23, and the final deadline for withdrawal ended at 11 am on Tuesday. With Kumar being the sole nominee, he was declared elected unopposed.

Speaking at the press conference, Hegde confirmed that no other nominations were filed, paving the way for Kumar’s unanimous selection.

Meanwhile, JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha praised Kumar’s leadership, crediting him with building the party through sustained effort and commitment. He traced the party’s origins to the formation of the Samata Party in 1994, when Bihar and Jharkhand were still a single state.

Highlighting the party’s three-decade journey, Jha said the transformation under Kumar’s leadership has been significant, especially in changing perceptions about Bihar.
