JD(U) president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will take oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on Friday, senior state minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said on Wednesday.
Addressing reporters in Patna, Chaudhary, a close associate of the chief minister, said Kumar is set to travel to New Delhi on Thursday ahead of the swearing-in ceremony. “Having been elected to the Rajya Sabha, he will take oath as a member of the Upper House. He will leave tomorrow and be sworn in the following day,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of a new government being formed in Bihar — reportedly led by the BJP — after Kumar steps down, Chaudhary said the process would unfold in due course. “The chief minister will resign after returning from Delhi, and discussions among NDA partners will determine the next steps,” he added.

Meanwhile, there is growing speculation that Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, who recently joined the JD(U), could be inducted into the new government, possibly as deputy chief minister.
