A gas pipeline leak at an ONGC-operated well in Dr B R Ambedkar Konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh triggered a fire on Monday, officials said, adding that no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
The fire broke out at the Mori-5 well in Mori village, which is operated by ONGC’s production enhancement contractor, Deep Industries Ltd. According to preliminary information, the blaze was caused by a leakage in the gas pipeline during ongoing production enhancement operations.
Following the incident, senior officials of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) rushed to the site from Rajahmundry to assess the situation and oversee safety measures. The officials are currently analysing the cause of the gas leak and the subsequent fire.
“The fire occurred due to a gas pipeline leakage at the Mori-5 well, which is operated by Deep Industries Ltd as part of production enhancement operations,” an ONGC official said.
The district administration of Konaseema has also been alerted and is coordinating with ONGC authorities to ensure that firefighting operations and safety protocols are effectively implemented. Officials said the situation is under control and precautionary measures have been taken to prevent any further escalation.
Deep Industries Ltd, a Production Enhancement Contractor (PEC) for ONGC, had secured a contract worth Rs 1,402 crore in 2024 for production enhancement operations at ONGC’s Rajahmundry Asset in Andhra Pradesh. The company has been operating the Mori-5 well for approximately one year.

Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the leak.
