Jay Prakash Majumdar of the All India Trinamool Congress on Monday accused Asaduddin Owaisi of being financially supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party, following the announcement of a new electoral alliance in West Bengal.
Speaking to reporters, Majumdar alleged that Owaisi has limited political influence beyond Hyderabad and described him as a “collection master,” claiming he raises funds in the name of minority representation. He further alleged that similar financial arrangements were in place during previous elections, though he did not provide evidence.
The remarks came after Owaisi confirmed that the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen will contest the upcoming West Bengal Assembly polls in alliance with Aam Janata Unnayan Party, led by Humayun Kabir.
Owaisi said he would jointly address a press conference in Kolkata with Kabir on March 25. Kabir had earlier stated that his party and its allies plan to field candidates in 182 constituencies, with AIMIM expected to contest around eight seats.
