PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh ex gratia for Tehri Garhwal accident victims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced ex gratia assistance of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those killed and Rs 50,000 for the injured following a fatal road accident in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand that left eight people dead.

In a message shared by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families, while wishing a speedy recovery to those injured. The financial assistance will be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

The accident occurred when a vehicle carrying 11 passengers lost control and plunged nearly 300 metres into a gorge near Nail village along the Chamba-Koti road in the district.

According to officials, eight people died in the incident, while two others sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the District Hospital in Baurari. Authorities said the injured are in stable condition, and post-mortem examinations of the deceased are underway.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ghansali, Alkesh Naudiyal, confirmed the casualty figures and said that immediate rescue efforts were launched following the crash.

Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local police and health officials, rushed to the spot and carried out rescue and relief operations.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed sorrow over the tragedy and directed the district administration to ensure prompt medical care for the injured and necessary assistance for affected families.

In a statement, Dhami said he prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for the grieving families, while also wishing a swift recovery for those injured in the accident.
