Amman
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from members of the Indian community on his arrival in Amman, as he began the Jordan leg of his three-nation overseas tour.
Members of the Indian diaspora gathered at the hotel to greet the Prime Minister, reflecting strong people-to-people bonds and the enthusiasm surrounding his visit to the Middle Eastern nation.
PM Modi departed on Monday for a four-day visit to Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman, aimed at deepening India’s bilateral ties with the three countries through high-level engagements.
Jordan is the first stop on the tour. During his stay, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold talks with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan. The visit assumes added significance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan, and is expected to give new impetus to bilateral cooperation.
While in Amman, PM Modi will also interact with members of the Indian diaspora, whom he has previously acknowledged for their meaningful contribution to strengthening India-Jordan relations.
After concluding his engagements in Jordan, the Prime Minister will travel to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. There, he is slated to meet Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, engage with the Indian community, and address a joint sitting of the Ethiopian Parliament.
Speaking ahead of the Ethiopia visit, PM Modi said he looked forward to addressing the joint session and sharing India’s democratic journey, describing the country as the “Mother of Democracy,” while highlighting the importance of the India-Ethiopia partnership for the Global South.
The final leg of the tour will take him to the Sultanate of Oman, at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. This will be PM Modi’s second visit to Oman and marks an important milestone as the two countries celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations.
During his time in Muscat, the Prime Minister will meet the Sultan of Oman, address members of the Indian diaspora, and hold discussions aimed at strengthening the India-Oman Strategic Partnership, with a particular focus on trade and economic cooperation.
