President Murmu nominates Harivansh to Rajya Sabha

New Delhi

Droupadi Murmu has nominated former Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh to the Rajya Sabha, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Ranjan Gogoi.

Harivansh’s earlier tenure as a member of the Upper House ended on April 9 after completing two terms representing Bihar.

According to an official notification, the nomination has been made under the provisions of Article 80 of the Constitution of India, which empowers the President to nominate members to the Council of States.

The 69-year-old parliamentarian has had a distinguished legislative career and also served as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

His nomination ensures continuity of experienced leadership in the Upper House, especially in a role that demands procedural expertise and consensus-building.
