Flight operations at Pune Airport resumed on Saturday morning after the runway was restored following an overnight closure caused by a technical snag in an Indian Air Force fighter aircraft, officials said.

According to Airport Director Santosh Dhoke, the fighter aircraft developed an undercarriage issue while landing at around 10:25 pm on Friday, leaving it immobilised on the runway. Both pilots were reported safe.

Because of the aircraft’s position and damage, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued for temporary runway closure until 5:30 am, which was later extended to 9 am to allow safe removal of the aircraft, inspection and restoration work.

The IAF later confirmed in a post on X that the runway had been restored and declared operational after all required safety checks and clearances were completed.

Officials said the aircraft was removed from the runway at around 5:45 am. Departures restarted from 7:30 am, while arrivals resumed from 8 am.

The disruption significantly affected air traffic. Authorities said 12 incoming flights were diverted and 73 flights operated by various airlines were cancelled during the closure period.

Passengers affected by delays and cancellations were provided drinking water, beverages and light refreshments.
