Rahul Gandhi on Thursday urged residents of Uttam Nagar to maintain peace and not fall prey to provocation amid recent tensions, asserting that unity and brotherhood are the country’s greatest strengths.

In a post on X, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said the people of Uttam Nagar have already suffered due to violence, referring to the death of a young man, Tarun, and the hardships faced by another family. He stressed that locals do not want further bloodshed.

Gandhi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its supporters of attempting to fuel unrest and spread hatred for political gains. He alleged that such tensions are being stoked to divert attention from key national issues.

Appealing to the people of Delhi, he said they should remain calm and not get drawn into communal discord, reiterating his message of unity with the slogan “Bharat Jodo”.

The remarks come amid heightened tension in Uttam Nagar following the March 4 killing of a 26-year-old man after a dispute during Holi celebrations. Subsequent protests by some groups led to incidents of arson, prompting heavy police deployment in the area to prevent further violence, especially ahead of Eid.
