Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar on Wednesday claimed that the Samajwadi Party (SP) could soon face a significant internal split, alleging that several of its leaders were prepared to switch allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a post shared on social media platform X, Rajbhar made a sensational claim that senior SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav had submitted a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, he did not disclose the contents of the alleged letter or provide any evidence to support the assertion.

"Samajwadi Party is heading towards a major division. Ram Gopal Yadav has already handed over a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah," Rajbhar wrote.

The SBSP leader also linked his claims to ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities during previous SP governments. Referring to the mining scam and the Gomti Riverfront project controversy, Rajbhar alleged that growing scrutiny in these cases had increased pressure on the opposition party.

"Everyone in Uttar Pradesh knows who was behind the mining scam and the Gomti Riverfront scam. As investigations move forward and accountability draws closer, the Samajwadi Party is becoming increasingly uneasy," he said.

Rajbhar further claimed that the political situation was not limited to recent developments in Maharashtra and West Bengal, where opposition parties have witnessed internal dissent and defections.

"The trend is spreading beyond those states. A large section of the Samajwadi Party is ready to join the BJP," he alleged.

Rajbhar's SBSP is currently an ally of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Uttar Pradesh.

The Samajwadi Party has not issued an official response to the allegations so far.

The remarks come at a politically sensitive time, with preparations gradually beginning for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. They also coincide with turmoil in several opposition parties across the country, including a split within the Trinamool Congress and reports of unrest within the Shiv Sena (UBT), where some MPs are said to be considering a shift to the ruling faction of the party.
