A report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has revealed that about 32 per cent of sitting Rajya Sabha MPs have declared criminal cases against themselves, while 14 per cent are billionaires.
The findings are based on affidavits of 229 out of 233 MPs, including 37 recently elected members. According to the report, 73 MPs have disclosed criminal cases, of which 36 are facing serious charges. These include one case of murder, four cases of attempt to murder, and three cases related to crimes against women.
Party-wise, the data shows that 27 out of 99 BJP MPs, 12 of 28 Congress MPs, four each from TMC and AAP, and three each from CPI(M) and BRS have declared criminal cases.
The report also highlights the wealth profile of MPs, stating that 31 members have assets worth over ₹100 crore. On average, a Rajya Sabha MP has assets of ₹120.69 crore.
Among parties, the average assets per MP vary widely — ₹28.29 crore for BJP, ₹128.61 crore for Congress, ₹17.70 crore for TMC, and ₹574.09 crore for AAP. Other parties such as YSRCP, SP, BJD, and DMK also show significant variations.
In terms of individual wealth, BRS MP Bandi Partha Saradhi tops the list with assets exceeding ₹5,300 crore, followed by AAP’s Rajinder Gupta with over ₹5,053 crore and YSRCP’s Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy with more than ₹2,577 crore.

On the other end of the spectrum, AAP MP Sant Balbir Singh is the least wealthy with assets of around ₹3 lakh, followed by Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba and TMC’s Prakash Chik Baraik.
