The Supreme Court of India has granted an additional nine months to complete the trial in the Sheena Bora murder case, making it clear that no further extension will be allowed.
A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh passed the order after a request from the special CBI court in Mumbai seeking more time to conclude proceedings.
The court said the trial timeline stands extended by nine months, but emphasised that no further pleas for extension would be entertained.
It also granted liberty to Indrani Mukerjea to file a fresh application seeking permission to travel abroad. Her former husband Peter Mukerjea is also an accused in the case.
According to investigators, Sheena Bora was allegedly strangled in a car in April 2012 by Indrani Mukerjea, her driver Shyamvar Rai and another accused, after which her body was burnt and disposed of in a forest in Raigad district.
The case came to light in 2015 after Rai revealed details of the crime following his arrest in another case.
