Maintaining the 30-year tradition of using Ramzan to foster brotherhood among various communities, legislator Sudip Roy Barman distributed Iftar among the fasting people in different mosques in his assembly constituency area in Agartala, Tripura.

Rohit Mia, a senior citizen of Bhati Abhay Nagar of Agartala, was visibly happy after receiving a packet of food for Iftar and greetings from his MLA, Sudeep Roy Burman.

Roy Barman distributed Iftar to nearly 1200 people in the Bhati Abhay Nagar area. He, along with his followers, offered Iftar to the fasting people.

He distributed sweets and snack packets among the students, teachers and local people of Forkaniya Madrasa as Iftar.

Barman served as the MLA of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the Agartala constituency, which he held since 1998 by winning four elections consecutively on the Congress ticket.

However, in 2018, he contested from the Agartala constituency and won on a BJP ticket.The program was attended by members of both Hindu and Muslim communities, and a large number of fasting people were also present.

Sudip Roy Barman said that he has been continuing this tradition of Iftar with the Muslim residents of the area during the holy month of Ramzan since 1993. He said that every year he goes to mosques, madrasas and panjikhanas and distributes Iftar.

He said, "During this blessed month, Muslims fast throughout the day and abstain from food and water. When they break their fast after performing ablution and prayers, we also try to participate in this spiritual atmosphere."

He congratulated everyone on the occasion of Ramzan and the upcoming Eid. The Muslim residents also appreciated the MLA's initiative.

Rohit Mia, a resident, said, "Our MLA has been maintaining this tradition for the last 30 years. By distributing Iftar, he expresses his love and connection with us. He said that this bond of love and harmony is a special blessing of Allah."
