The Telangana High Court on Friday granted one week’s anticipatory bail to Congress leader Pawan Khera in connection with a case filed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, over allegations related to passport and property disclosures.
The court allowed Khera a week’s time to approach the appropriate jurisdictional court for further relief. The development was confirmed by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee legal cell representative Ponnam Ashoke Goud.
The case stems from allegations made by Khera, who claimed that Riniki Bhuyan Sharma holds multiple passports — from India, the UAE, and Egypt — and possesses undisclosed luxury properties in Dubai, along with links to a company in Wyoming, United States.
The Sarma family has strongly denied the allegations, calling the documents “AI-generated fabrications” allegedly circulated by Pakistani social media groups.
Earlier, Assam Police conducted searches at Khera’s residence in Delhi following the FIR filed in the matter.
Reacting to the controversy, Himanta Biswa Sarma had asserted that strict action would be taken, alleging that the claims were baseless and politically motivated. He also suggested that the issue could widen politically, while maintaining that law enforcement agencies would pursue the case as per procedure.

Sarma further claimed that Khera had left Delhi for Hyderabad amid the investigation, stating that “the law will take its own course.”
