Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said the party’s victory in the local body elections in Telangana reflected popular approval of the Congress government’s people-centric policies focused on social justice, dignity and inclusive growth.

Gandhi said the Congress remained committed to building a “Prajala Telangana,” ensuring that development and progress reached every family in the state.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also welcomed the poll outcome, saying it demonstrated the trust reposed by the people in the party and its governance.

In a significant boost to the A Revanth Reddy-led government, the Congress on Friday registered a decisive victory in the municipal elections, while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also made notable gains.

Of the 2,582 wards across 116 municipalities where polling was held on February 11, the Congress secured more than 1,300 wards. The BRS won around 700 wards, while the BJP emerged victorious in about 275 wards.

In a post on social media platform X, Gandhi said, “The Telangana local body polls win is a clear endorsement of the Congress government’s people-first policies rooted in social justice, dignity and inclusive growth.”

He thanked party workers and leaders for their efforts, adding, “This victory belongs to you and to the people of Telangana. Our vision of a Prajala Telangana—where progress reaches every family—remains unwavering.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Kharge said the mandate reaffirmed the government’s resolve to build a state where social justice, economic empowerment and sustained progress are ensured for all its 3.8 crore people.

“My gratitude to the dedicated grassroots workers of Telangana Congress for this commendable victory. This mandate reflects the trust of the people,” Kharge said in a post on X.
