Three daily-wage labourers died after falling into a well they were digging in a remote village of Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, officials said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Disama village when the workers accidentally slipped into the deep pit during the excavation work.
Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force were rushed to the site and managed to retrieve the labourers from the well, officials said.
The injured workers were immediately taken to Diphu Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The deceased have been identified as Tissong Terang, Bongtharber Hobi Teron and Longsdab Teron.

District authorities have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident, officials added.
