Police in West Bengal have arrested the son of “absconding” Dilip Mondal, along with five others, for allegedly possessing illegal firearms in the Bakkhali–Fraserganj region, officials said on Monday.
According to police, a joint operation carried out by the West Bengal Police and Diamond Harbour district police late on Sunday led to the arrest of Arghya Mondal and the other accused.
During the operation, officers reportedly recovered two pistols and six mobile phones from the group. All six accused were subsequently taken to the Diamond Harbour police station for further questioning.
Police also alleged that Arghya Mondal had been threatening workers and supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the area.
Meanwhile, Dilip Mondal, who represents the Bishnupur constituency as a member of the All India Trinamool Congress, remains untraceable, with search operations currently underway.

The MLA had earlier faced allegations of intimidating political rivals, following which a police complaint was filed. Investigators had also conducted raids on May 14 at two properties linked to him in the Pailan area as part of the ongoing probe.
