Political uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu is expected to ease later on Saturday when Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is set to announce its stand on extending support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay.

The political drama intensified as TVK came under allegations of attempted horse-trading after NDA constituent Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazagam (AMMK) accused the party of using a forged support letter while staking claim to form the government.

With the support of the Left parties already secured, attention has now shifted to VCK founder Thol Thirumavalavan, who held consultations with senior party leaders through video conferencing on Friday. The party has said its final decision will be announced at 4 pm.

In a development reminiscent of earlier episodes of “resort politics” in the state, Congress legislators who have already extended support to TVK are currently staying in Hyderabad, while TVK legislators have reportedly been housed at a resort in Mamallapuram near Chennai.

Meanwhile, AIADMK legislators, who were earlier in Puducherry, have returned to Chennai.

AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran has lodged a complaint with the Guindy Police, alleging that TVK submitted a photocopy of a forged letter to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, falsely claiming the support of AMMK’s lone MLA-elect.

Dhinakaran accused the Vijay-led party of forgery and horse-trading, questioning why the original letter was not produced before the governor and warning of legal action.

TVK has denied the allegations, describing them as false and releasing what it claims is video evidence showing the concerned MLA voluntarily signing the support letter.

Police are expected to conduct a preliminary inquiry before deciding whether to register an FIR.

Amid the fast-moving political developments, Vijay is also expected to meet Thirumavalavan at VCK’s office in Ashok Nagar, where security has been tightened.

TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the 234-member assembly with 108 seats but remains short of the majority mark. The party has since sought support from Congress, the Left parties and VCK—all former allies of the DMK—to secure enough numbers to form the next government.
