Bhopal Police on Saturday said it will seek a seven-day remand of Samarth Singh, the husband of deceased Twisha Sharma and the prime accused in her death case. Officials also said that three notices had been served to his mother, former judge Giribala Singh.

Addressing a press conference, Sanjay Kumar said Samarth Singh would undergo a medical examination before being produced before a court.

“First, we will get his medical done and file a PR from the court. We will ask for seven days’ remand. He was brought in late at night. Some procedures still take time. We will interrogate him further, and if it emerges that someone sheltered him, action will also be taken against them,” Kumar said.

The police commissioner said Singh had attempted to surrender before a court in Jabalpur, but was taken into custody after the court declined to allow the surrender.

“He had gone to the court in Jabalpur to surrender, but the court refused to permit it. Meanwhile, our team was also present there, and with the help of the Jabalpur police, he was taken into custody,” Kumar added.

On reports that AIIMS Delhi had not received communication regarding a second autopsy in the case, Kumar said the court had written to the General Administration Department and efforts were underway to bring a medical team from the institute to Bhopal.

“This court has written to the GAD. We are coordinating with them and trying to ensure the team arrives as soon as possible. A team from AIIMS Delhi will come to Bhopal,” he said.

Responding to claims by Giribala Singh that she had not received police notices, Kumar maintained that due procedure had been followed.

“We issued three notices to her. If she is denying it now, that is a different matter. She is accused in serious offences and we are proceeding according to procedure. We have also moved court seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail,” he said.

Meanwhile, advocate Gyanendra Sharma, representing Giribala Singh, said the family had cooperated with investigators whenever approached by police.

“We will present our side before the court. Whenever police came to us, we met them. If remand is sought, we will oppose it,” Sharma said.

Police are expected to take Samarth Singh from Katara Hills Police Station for medical examination before producing him before a court.
