Kodagu
A woman from the United States was allegedly sexually assaulted at a homestay in Kutta village, and two people have been arrested in connection with the case, police said on Wednesday.
According to officials, the incident took place about a week ago at the property in Kodagu district. Police said a staff member originally from Jharkhand, who worked in the hospitality section of the homestay, has been arrested on charges related to the assault.
The homestay owner has also been taken into custody for allegedly failing to report the woman’s complaint to police authorities, a senior officer said.
Investigators said the woman alleged that her drink had been spiked before she was assaulted by the employee. She further claimed that after informing the owner, efforts were made to suppress the matter and the Wi-Fi connection was switched off for three days, preventing her from contacting others.
Police said she later regained access, left the premises on the pretext of travelling to Mysuru, and then approached the US Consulate as well as local police.
