Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday reviewed the restoration work on the Pune-Mumbai ghat section after train operations resumed on one line following heavy landslides and the blockage of the section on July 7, caused by heavy rainfall.
"I reviewed the railway restoration work in the Pune-Mumbai ghat section today. The landslides have been severe, and the damage to the railway line as well as the surrounding areas is significant. Teams from Central Railway and Western Railway are working in close coordination," Vaishnaw told PTI on Thursday.
The Central Railway and Western Railway zones worked together to restore one line on the section, officials said, adding that it was made operational at around 11.30 pm on Tuesday itself.
Vaishnaw also reviewed train operations on the single restored line and said that, for the time being, two locomotives have been attached to both ends of all trains to provide extra pulling power on the steep inclines in the ghat section as a temporary operational arrangement.
Officials said the slip line remains blocked due to the landslide, and efforts are underway to clear it at the earliest.

"Transporting construction material to some sites remains a challenge. Teams are coordinating with the district authorities and the Forest Department to restore the lines at the earliest," Vaishnaw said.
