“Tricolour is our glory; our identity; it’s our soul. Salutations to its grandeur!” This is how Principal Maulana Wahid Ahmed Bandey of Zia Uloom Group of Institutions in Poonch on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir explained to his students the phenomenon of Har Ghar Tiranga.

The chorus of Sare jehan se aacha Hindustan Hamara..by 1600 spirited students of the school reverberated across the mountains beyond the Line of control. He made children promise they will unfurl the flag atop their houses.
A video of this program posted on social media has gone viral with netizens loving the grandiose function and the spirited children singing the patriotic number.
It’s worth mentioning that the LOC is located at a distance of 5 km from the school that has some 3,000 students on rolls.

The institution includes an Islamic seminary and a school to complement their religious education with worldly education.

Speaking with Awaz-the Voice, Bandey said that the school programme has generated enthusiasm among the children. “Also, there has been a very positive response from their parents. We have been able to convey to the children that the three colors of this flag represent the sacrifices of our elders that need to be remembered and hoisting the tricolor on homes to salute their struggle will be a positive sign.”
Mesmerising view of the Poonch school function
Jamia Zia Uloom Poonch was established as a madrassa in 1974 in Old Bagilan Mosque, City of Poonch in the Jammu region. Later, it was expanded into Jamia Zia Uloom, along with which a primary school that eventually got upgraded to a high school. It offers education in science and computer.
He said that the children were made aware of the importance of knowledge be it about the flag or one’s nation, religion, or country. Everything must be respected.”

The administration told 'Awaz the Voice' that the main purpose of Islamic institutions is to circulate, publish and serve the religion, but it is the responsibility of Islamic scholars to meet modern demands and urgency and to spread Islam with tools and wisdom. Importantly, Islamic education is incomplete without modern education. Therefore, the department of school education was established from the beginning of Zia Uloom.
