Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said the government’s latest Economic Survey underscores a rapidly changing global order marked by intensifying geopolitical conflicts and growing instability.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi said he found two significant observations in the Survey that, according to him, accurately reflect current global realities.

“The Economic Survey makes two solid and profound points. First, that we are living in a world of intensifying geopolitical conflict,” Gandhi said, noting that the long-standing dominance of the United States is being increasingly challenged by China, Russia and other emerging powers.

He said this shift indicates a move away from a unipolar global structure towards a more fragmented and contested world order.

The second key point highlighted in the Survey, Gandhi said, was the growing weaponisation of energy and financial systems, which are increasingly being used as tools of strategic leverage in international politics.

“The Survey clearly says we are moving from a world of stability to a world of instability,” he said.

Referring to earlier statements by the Prime Minister and the National Security Adviser that the era of war was over, Gandhi argued that current global developments contradict that assessment.

“Shockingly, it was said some time ago that the era of war is over. In fact, we are entering an era of war,” he said.

Gandhi pointed to ongoing and recent conflicts, including the war in Ukraine, the Gaza conflict, tensions across the Middle East and the possibility of a wider confrontation involving Iran. He also referred to Operation Sindoor as part of the evolving security environment.

He further said the global balance of power is undergoing a fundamental transformation, with challenges emerging to the dominance of the US dollar and American supremacy.

“The central issue today is that the dollar is being challenged and US supremacy is being questioned. We are moving from a world dominated by one superpower to a new global order that is uncertain and difficult to predict,” Gandhi added.
