As a cold wave grips large parts of northern India, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday urged citizens to remain calm and show compassion towards those affected, assuring that the state government is taking swift and sensitive measures to minimise the impact of the harsh weather.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said officials across the state have been directed to adopt a humane and people-centric approach while implementing relief efforts. He emphasised that safeguarding every life during the severe winter conditions remains the government’s top priority.

Adityanath said night shelters across Uttar Pradesh are operating at full capacity to support the homeless and vulnerable. These shelters have been equipped with quilts, blankets, drinking water, bonfires and heaters. He added that students and relatives of patients arriving from other districts are also being accommodated in these facilities.

Municipal bodies and tehsil administrations have been mobilised to distribute woollen clothes and blankets among those in need, while bonfires have been set up at key public locations to provide warmth during the night. “No one will be allowed to remain exposed to the cold,” the Chief Minister assured.

Special arrangements have also been made for cow shelters, with additional blankets and bonfires provided to protect animals from the cold wave.

To address safety concerns arising from dense fog, additional personnel have been deployed on roadways and awareness campaigns are being conducted to prevent accidents.

Appealing for public participation, Adityanath urged citizens to extend help to domestic workers, sanitation staff, security guards and others working outdoors. He said even small gestures, such as offering a cup of tea or guiding people to government-run night shelters, can make a meaningful difference. “The true test of human values and empathy comes at such times,” he said.

Reiterating the government’s broader vision, the Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh is advancing with a commitment to Antyodaya—upliftment of the poorest—and Sarvodaya—the welfare of all—moving steadily towards a developed state through inclusive governance and public cooperation.
