Marziya Shanu Pathan, the newly elected corporator of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar group), from Umbra-Kausa, organised a special Marathi language camp for Urdu-speaking students of the Muslim-majority area.
The camp aimed to address the criticism that Muslim areas have a large number of Urdu-Medium schools where the Marathi language is not taught. Besides, Muslims face a misconception that they don’t assimilate into society as they avoid learning the Marathi language at the school level.
The camp was primarily organised for class 10 students so that they could overcome the difficulty in the Marathi language as a subject. This camp received a huge response, as they were imparted Marathi grammar and writing skills.
Speaking about this initiative, Corporator Marziya Shanu Pathan said, "We have been focusing more on working in the education sector since the beginning. Last year too, a session was organised for science, mathematics and Marathi subjects before the board exams. But last time it was done in a hurry.”
She said, “This time, we have organised this camp with full preparation. Marathi is our state language. Everyone should know the state language, and the students of Mumbra should not lag in this."
On the attendance of students at the camp, Marziya said, “Our children from the Mumbra-Kausa know what I call raw Marathi, so they face difficulty with this subject. I was expecting 200-500 students, but the attendance was over 2,000. All three floors of this building were filled. We also accommodated students who had not previously registered.”
Seeing the overwhelming response to the camp, Marziya says she will soon organise another session.
Marziya says, “Students came to the camp not only from Mumbra-Kausa, but also from Kurla, Dombivli and other areas. This also included Marathi-speaking students. The first paper in the board examination is in the Marathi language, and due to this, the children are anxious. We also tried to instil confidence in them. Alhamdulillah, our vision was successful.”
Marziya also made some announcements to encourage the students. She said, “Those who get good marks in class 10th will be honoured by MSP Care Foundation (Her NGO). The NGO will publicise their achievements on social media, and also present them with gifts.”
She says the camp was organised just before the board examination. “After the exams, we will organise a big career guidance program. My NGO has been doing it each year, but this time we will do it elaborately.”
In this camp, Marziya gave valuable advice to the students. She said, “The only thing I told the children was that they should watch the movie 12th Fail. One thing you can learn from it is that you should not cheat in the examination. You may pass by copying, but in the long run, it will not benefit you. So study honestly and achieve great success.”
Marziya's MSP Care Foundation has been involved in social issues, including education for the residents. About her plans as a corporator, Marziya says, "Our goal is to work on education. This is my first program in the education sector after winning the election. In the coming days, the entire panel of MSP Care Foundation and corporator Marziya Shanu Pathan will be seen working for education, this is my word."
She says, “Now that I am a corporator, I have full authority to intervene in matters of education. I will personally visit schools to see if studies are going well or not. I will also work on many important issues in the ward.”
