The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, with Harmanpreet Kaur set to lead the side and Smriti Mandhana named vice-captain.

India head into the tournament with confidence following their recent success in the 50-over World Cup and will aim to carry that momentum into the T20 format. The competition is scheduled to begin on June 12, with India starting their campaign on June 14 against arch-rivals Pakistan.

This will be Kaur’s fifth stint as captain in the tournament, and she will look to guide the team to a long-awaited title after several near misses in previous editions. The batting unit features experienced names such as Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh.

On the bowling front, key responsibilities will rest with Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh. However, all-rounders Kashvee Gautam and Amanjot Kaur were unavailable due to injuries.

India have been placed in Group A alongside Australia women's national cricket team, Bangladesh women's national cricket team, Netherlands women's national cricket team, and South Africa women's national cricket team.

The squad announcement was made by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, chief selector Amita Sharma, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and head coach Amol Muzumdar.

Ahead of the global event, India will play a three-match T20I series against England women's national cricket team from May 28 to June 2 as part of their preparations. Additionally, a squad has been named for a one-off Test match against England at Lord's Cricket Ground.
