Lakshya Sen made history at the Commonwealth Games on Monday by becoming the first Indian to win the men’s singles gold medal in Badminton at the CWG.

He defeated Ng Tze Yong of Malaysia in a three-game thriller 19-21, 21-9 and 21-16.

After losing the first game, Sen came back strongly in the second game literally running over his opponent 21-9.

The decider saw Sen taking a four-point cushion at the break 11-7. He never looked back after that and wrapped up the match to create history at Birmingham.

This was Sen’s debut at the CWG. He was also part of the Mixed Team even in which India won the silver medal.

Earlier in the day, PV Sindhu won her first gold medal in women’s singles defeating Michelle Li of Canada in straight games.
