PV Sindhu has won her first CWG Singles gold medal

India’s ace-shuttler PV Sindhu won the women’s singles gold medal on the concluding day of the Commonwealth Games on Monday.

Sindhu defeated Canadian Michelle Li in straight games 21-15, 21-13 in a 46-minute encounter.

This was Sindhu’s first gold medal in singles badminton at the CWG. She had won a bronze in 2014 and silver in the 2018 edition of the games. In the last edition of the games she had lost to Saina Nehwal in an all-India final.

With this win, India now has 19 gold medals and the total medals tally has increased to 56.

India will be hoping to add to their golds tally in Badminton with Lakshya Sen in the men’s singles and Shetty-Reddy duo in the men’s doubles event yet to play the finals later in the day.

In Table Tennis, Sharath Kamal and the men’s Hockey team too will be playing for the gold medal on Monday.
