Morocco's rise is not merely a celebration of the rise of African and Arab aspirations, but also of migrants.
16 of the 26 players in the Morocco squad are children of migrants, born or raised in foreign lands. Its star full-back Mazroui and playmaker Zyeich were born in the Netherlands. French striker, Mbappe’s shadow in the semifinal clash, Hakimi was born in Spain. Goalkeeper Bounou who has won many a heart at Qatar with his outstanding performance under the bar is of Canadian ancestry.
Morocco 🇲🇦 might have not advanced to the World Cup finals but they’re still winners in the hearts of the millions of people who finally had a team in their part of the world to root for in the semifinals. Thank you for inspiring a generation!
