India thrash Australia 5-0, enter Thomas Cup quarterfinals

India defeated Australia 5-0 in the men’s Group A clash of the Thomas & Uber Cup 2026 on Monday to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

India had opened their campaign with a 4-1 win over Canada and will next face top seeds China to decide the group winners. China also beat Australia 5-0 and overcame Canada 4-1 on Monday.

Knowing a win would seal qualification, India made one change from the side that beat Canada, bringing in HS Prannoy for Kidambi Srikanth.

Lakshya Sen gave India the perfect start with a 21-14, 21-16 victory over Ephraim Stephen Sam. Ayush Shetty then doubled the lead, beating Shrey Dhand 21-8, 21-6 in just 26 minutes.

Former Asian champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty sealed the tie by defeating Rizky Hidayat and Jack Yu 21-14, 21-16.

Prannoy then beat Rishi Honda Boopathy 21-11, 21-17, while the men’s doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun completed the whitewash with a 21-12, 21-10 win over Andika Ramadiansyah and Sam.
