India’s U-17 boys boxing team faced a tough outing at the Asian Boxing U17 Championships 2026 in Tashkent, with Lakshay Phogat emerging as the only finalist from the squad, while four other Indian boxers settled for bronze medals after semifinal defeats.
Competing in the 75kg category, Lakshay delivered an impressive performance, defeating Korea’s Seungmin Lee by a unanimous 5-0 decision to secure his place in the final.
In other semifinal matches, Narendra Nella (46kg) suffered a 0-5 loss against Uzbekistan’s Abdulloh Nuraliev. Yash Yadav (50kg) was beaten 1-4 by Mongolia’s Suld Usukhbaatar, while Nivesh Pal (54kg) lost 0-5 to Abdulbosit Yursunboev of Uzbekistan.
Naman (70kg) came close to reaching the final but narrowly lost 2-3 against Uzbekistan’s Abduvohid Abdumajidov in a tightly fought contest.
Despite the setbacks, the Indian U-17 boys squad finished with one finalist and four bronze medals across different weight divisions.
Earlier in the competition, the Indian girls boxers produced several strong performances. Rakhi (46kg) recorded a third-round referee stoppage victory over China’s Yating Zhang, while Khushi Chand (48kg) secured a commanding 5-0 win against Mongolia’s Mungunzul Altamgadasa.
In the 52kg division, Mamta Murlidhar Raut lost 0-5 to China’s Yaxin Qiu, and Laxmi Manjunath Lamani (54kg) went down 1-4 against Uzbekistan’s Kumriniso Muhammadova.
Navya (57kg) advanced to the final after registering a second-round RSC victory against Mongolia’s Dagiimaa Chuluutumur.
In the 60kg category, Ishika narrowly lost 2-3 to Kazakhstan’s Balym Gabitkyzy. Diya (63kg) progressed with a dominant first-round RSC win over Jia-En Song of Chinese Taipei.
Harnoor Kaur (66kg) was defeated 0-5 by Kazakhstan’s Ayaulym Ospanova, while Himanshi (70kg) secured a first-round RSC win against Jordan’s Jude Habi.
Jyoti (75kg) also booked her place in the next round with a first-round stoppage victory over Cheng-Hui Zou of Chinese Taipei. Vanshika (80kg) earned a convincing 4-1 win against Uzbekistan’s Feruzabonu Kamolova.

In the 80+kg category, Gurseerat Kaur stormed into the final with a first-round RSC victory over Xin-Ying Huang of Chinese Taipei.
