New Delhi
The Supreme Court on Friday allowed wrestler Vinesh Phogat to take part in the selection trials for the 2026 Asian Games, scheduled to be held on May 30 and 31.
A bench comprising Justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe passed the interim order while hearing a petition filed by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), which had challenged a Delhi High Court ruling permitting Phogat to participate in the trials.
During the hearing, the apex court observed that it would not be appropriate to deny the wrestler an opportunity after the high court had already granted relief.
“Today at this stage, the high court having passed the order, the hope and expectations have risen. To tell her to go back home and we can't do anything, will not be proper,” the bench told the counsel representing the WFI.
