Chef Sajida Khan of Mumbai has created a platform that enables thousands of people to learn the art and skill of cooking. As a successful woman entrepreneur, Khan’s journey demonstrates how passion, dedication and a commitment to one’s craft can help turn a modest beginning into a meaningful enterprise.
Sajida Khan developed a passion for cooking and experimenting with new recipes during childhood. For her, the kitchen was never merely a place to prepare food; it was a space for creativity, experimentation and joy.
Over time, she realised that in a metropolis like Mumbai, there was a need for institutes where aspiring cooks and bakers could learn culinary arts through modern techniques, hands-on training and exposure to a professional environment.

She also noticed that while many people were eager to learn cooking, traditional cooking classes often failed to provide the kind of immersive experience they were looking for. This realisation inspired her to establish Culinary Craft, a state-of-the-art culinary studio in Hiranandani Gardens, Powai.
The venture has since grown into a popular cooking and baking studio in Mumbai. Today, Culinary Craft is more than a training institute; it is a platform where people of different ages and backgrounds can develop their culinary skills and explore new opportunities.
Khan believes cooking is not simply about following a recipe—it is an experience. Just as people go to watch a movie, attend a concert or enjoy a play, cooking, too, should be an activity that brings joy and confidence while offering an opportunity to learn.
Students at Culinary Craft are therefore taught more than recipes. They learn the science behind different dishes, how to balance spices and flavours, how to combine taste with presentation, and how to transform an ordinary dish into a memorable culinary experience.

The training is entirely hands-on. Students work under the guidance of experienced chefs in a modern, fully air-conditioned kitchen equipped with contemporary appliances. The courses cover a wide range of skills, including chocolate tempering, bread and cake baking, pastry making, pasta preparation and different egg-cooking techniques. Participants are also introduced to the nuances of Indian and international cuisines, as well as food plating and presentation.
The training goes beyond cooking techniques. Participants also learn how professional kitchens function and how to manage time efficiently while maintaining consistency and quality.
Khan believes that education is meaningful when it empowers individuals to become self-reliant. Accordingly, the aim of Culinary Craft is not simply to teach culinary skills, but also to nurture self-confidence, creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset.
The institute has emerged as a particularly significant opportunity for women. Many women trained at Culinary Craft have gone on to start home-based bakery and food businesses, while several young people have built careers in reputed hotels and restaurants. In this way, Culinary Craft has become not only a centre for skill development but also a vehicle for social and economic empowerment.

Khan’s vision extends beyond running a successful culinary studio. She wants to take culinary education to as many people as possible across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, enabling them to master the art of preparing delicious, high-quality food and, if they choose, turn their skills into a career or business.
She believes cooking is a lifelong skill that encourages creativity and confidence while opening doors to economic opportunities.
Today, Culinary Craft has become an inspiring destination for those eager to discover the “master chef” within themselves. Students learn not only how to prepare delicious dishes but also how food can create connections and win hearts.
