Days after the brutal killing of factory worker Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district, Education Adviser Professor C R Abrar visited the victim’s family on behalf of the Interim Government to offer condolences and assure them of support.
In a statement, the Office of the Chief Adviser expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. During his visit on Tuesday, Professor Abrar met Dipu Chandra Das’s father, Rabilal Das, and other family members, and conveyed the government’s solidarity at this difficult time.
Terming the killing a heinous criminal act, Abrar said there was no justification for such violence and that it had no place in Bangladeshi society. He stressed that allegations, rumours or differences in belief could never excuse violence, and that no individual had the right to take the law into their own hands.
Reaffirming the Interim Government’s commitment to the rule of law, the adviser assured the family that all aspects of the case would be thoroughly investigated and that justice would be delivered through due legal process. He said law enforcement agencies have so far arrested 12 people in connection with the crime and that investigations are continuing.
Abrar added that the Interim Government has directed authorities to pursue the case fully and without exception, warning that acts of violence would be dealt with firmly under the law. He reiterated that the government remains committed to ensuring the safety, dignity and equal protection of all citizens, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or background.
Calling for collective responsibility, he urged communities, institutions and leaders to reject violence and uphold restraint and respect for the law. On behalf of the Office of the Chief Adviser, Abrar also confirmed that financial and welfare assistance would be extended to the family and that authorities would remain in close contact with them in the coming days.
