The Muslim community in India is alarmed over a proposed ‘Waking Up America Tour’ to underscore ‘Hindutva as the fastest-growing Islamophobic threat in the USA' that will be launched from Minnesota city of the USA on November 6.
The flier circulated widely by ASPAIRE (Alliance to Save and Protect America from Infiltration by Religious Extremists), the organisation behind this event, on social media mentions that the ‘Minneapolis Stop’ of the tour will include a talk and fundraiser on November 6, at the Islamic Center of Minnesota.
Dr. Shomaila Warsi, who teaches Political Science and International Relations at the Maharaja Agrasen College of Delhi University believes that such conferences are meant to showcase India in a poor light internationally.
‘These conferences present a highly misleading picture of the social and political realities of India and the Indian Muslims must come forward to counter this propaganda’, Dr. Shomaila said. Also, these are sponsored by the enemies of India to sow seeds of discord and harm the Hindu-Muslim bonhomie, she said.
The talk will be attended by the controversial Islamic preacher Imam Siraj Wahhaj.

Siraj Wahhaj, who some reports have suggested, was one of the key conspirators in the World Trade Center terror attack in 2001.
Wahhaj, a preacher at Al-Taqwa mosque in Brooklyn is also known for his support of Recep Tayyib Erdogan’s plans to revive the Ottoman caliphate and bring Turkey back under the rule of Sharia.
"It s a fact that the conference is promoting the fake narrative of a planned Muslim genocide in India which can have serious implications for the communal harmony within the Country,"Dr Shomaila Warsi said.
‘Indian Muslims do not need rescuing by anyone. India is a very strong democracy with a rule of law. Surprisingly, some people who have never visited India are talking about an imaginary genocide when Muslims in India are enjoying full constitutional rights and are participating as equal citizens in the national development,” said Samreen, a student of Law from Lucknow.
Meanwhile, as per sources, many major Muslim organizations from India have condemned and are planningto protest against the scheduled event.
