Ilam
Residents of Ilam on Tuesday formed a human chain to protest against recent threats issued by US President Donald Trump, signalling public defiance amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.
According to the Tasnim News Agency, the demonstration was organised in response to warnings from Washington about possible strikes targeting Iran’s key infrastructure, including bridges and power facilities.
Visuals from the protest showed men, women, and children standing side by side along a major road, holding hands to form a continuous chain. Many participants carried Iranian flags and placards bearing images of national leaders, while chanting slogans emphasising unity and resistance.
The protest reflects growing grassroots mobilisation across the country. In a related development, Iran’s Deputy Sports Minister Alireza Rahimi called on athletes, artists, students, and citizens to gather around critical infrastructure such as power plants, forming similar human chains as both symbolic and protective measures.
In a video message, Rahimi urged citizens to safeguard national assets, describing them as vital resources belonging to the people.
These developments come amid heightened rhetoric from Washington. Trump has issued stark warnings about potential large-scale strikes on Iranian infrastructure if Tehran does not meet US demands, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
In recent remarks and social media posts, the US President suggested that failure to comply could result in widespread destruction of key facilities within a short time frame. He also indicated that the situation represents a decisive moment in US-Iran relations, while expressing hope for a possible political shift within Iran.
