Esmaeil Baghaei has strongly criticised the United States, accusing Washington of reckless and unlawful conduct amid rising tensions in West Asia.
In a sharply worded statement posted on social media on Friday, Baghaei said recent events had exposed what he described as the consequences of “adventurism” and “irresponsible behaviour,” adding that attempts to downplay military actions could not conceal what he called serious strategic miscalculations.
Without directly naming individuals, the Iranian spokesperson said dismissive rhetoric and social media messaging could not alter the realities created by military escalation.
He also referred to an earlier statement in which he warned against what he described as policymaking driven by preconceived notions while ignoring ground realities.
Baghaei’s remarks came after Donald Trump reportedly characterised recent American strikes on Iranian-linked targets as limited retaliatory action, while maintaining that a ceasefire remained in place despite continued military exchanges.
Meanwhile, United States Central Command said American naval forces had taken action against additional Iranian-flagged oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman as part of ongoing maritime enforcement operations.
According to the US military, the vessels were intercepted before reaching Iranian ports, following similar action earlier this week.
Amid the continuing tensions, Trump also indicated that his administration could revive “Project Freedom,” a maritime security initiative aimed at facilitating the movement of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz if diplomatic efforts with Iran fail to produce an agreement.
He said the initiative, if restored, could be expanded into a broader framework to address evolving security challenges in the region.
